Family: card. Lojudice (Siena), “it is not an old rag to throw away. Central also in the synodal path”
Last night, in the Episcopal Palace of Siena, the meeting on “The family, a social subject for the common good” was held, created to underline the importance of the family as a social subject, to be valued in its role as a builder of networks and of common good, with a focus on the importance of family policies that recognize the social value of the family, support it and promote it. The appointment was organized by the archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d’Elsa-Montalcino, by the national Acli, by the provincial Acli of Siena in collaboration with the regional Acli of Tuscany.
“The family – said card. Augusto Paolo Lojudice, archbishop of Siena-Colle di Val d’Elsa-Montalcino – is not an old rag to throw away, we must do everything to ensure that it remains as the backbone of society and produces the fruits that God himself wants it to produce. It is central to the synodal journey and in a moment of this kind where the launch of the synodal journey has been taking place for a few months now, leaving the family again becomes a great opportunity. The crisis of the family is a fact that derives from a more general crisis of society and of the identity of values. For us, in the journey of the Christian community, it is a question of helping people to stop and reflect, of connecting diocesan events and services. We must proclaim the Gospel but the light must be declined on how the community itself is built ”.
“Today – said Enrico Fiori, president of the Acli di Siena – we are talking about the family as the fundamental cell of society. But the family also has several enemies, for example the individualistic mentality that like a hammer crumbles communities and makes them think only of their own interests. This idea that there is no way to collaborate with each other must be fought and the family is precisely the first place where we work for the common good “.
“The family – said Lidia Borzì, member of the ACLI national team with responsibility for family and lifestyles – is not an individual’s presidency, but a social subject that is the heart of the community and has always been at the center of the ACLI commitment. Even during the pandemic, families have proved to be a fundamental resource, but for this very reason they need to be supported, at all levels, with adequate, interdependent and systemic policies “.
