City wants to develop Katwilgweg on the Left Bank: “Space for working, living, learning and relaxing” | Antwerp
AntwerpThe city of Antwerp wants to develop the Katwilweg area on the Left Bank, where the editorial office of Gazet van Antwerpen is located. The aim is to create housing, training centers and infrastructure for relaxation.
The council of aldermen approved the start-up and process memorandum of the spatial implementation plan Katwilgweg 2.0 on Friday. The city can now start working on the concrete drafting of the plan, together with the study bureau Antea. The possibilities for use of this area will be expanded: from just business to a new district with space for, among other things, working, living, learning and relaxing.
“We want to make better use of the space in the spatial implementation plan, make the area multifunctional and take it out of its current isolation,” says Antwerp Alderman for Urban Development Annick De Ridder (N-VA). “The focus is on the undeveloped sites in the eastern part of the plan area with a visible office function, a smaller share of SMEs and a limited urban programme. New bicycle paths will connect the district with other parts of Linkeroever.”
