The Boeing-747-400 of the Rossiya airlines, operating flight FV 5798 on the route Urgada – Moscow on January 21, took off 9.5 hours late due to a broken tailgate, an eyewitness to the events told TASS upon arrival in the Russian capital. At the same time, passengers who flew on board from Moscow to Egypt, due to a defect in the compartment, could not receive their luggage, which returned back to Russia.
According to the schedule of the Rossiya airline’s flight, it was supposed to fly from Hurghada airport to Sheremetyevo at 18:25 hours time (19:25 Moscow time), follows from the schedule for site airline. However, passengers reported a one-hour delay in departure, the source told TASS. According to him, after this flight was postponed several times, but the reason for the delay was not called.
“From the window of the terminal building, our plane was visible, near which a dozen airport personnel gathered, they found the tailgate. They used different tools to open the door, but nothing worked,” he said. As the flight was delayed into the fourth hour, the passengers were given bottles of water for the expected departure, he said.
These Russians managed to fly out of Hurghada only at 04:00 am according to the time change (05:00 Moscow time) on January 22. Before that, the airport staff confirmed to the passengers that all this time the issue with the luggage compartment door was being resolved, the TASS interlocutor says. They were explained that because of this breakdown, passengers who had arrived on board from Moscow remained in the luggage compartment. In the end, he returned to Moscow. At the same time, the luggage of passengers flying to Russia often ended up inside the cabin.
Rossiya Airlines told TASS that passengers who were left without their luggage in Hurghada received it on January 23. Due to a technical malfunction and the absence of specialists at the Hurghada airport who are able to quickly control the work on opening the luggage compartment, the passengers of the Sheremetyevo – Hurghada flight 5797 could not receive their luggage upon arrival.
