Makis Theodoros’s love is to discovers unknown beauties Our country. Mountain villages, alpine lakes, rivers, traditional bridges and tops of the buns. Makis Theodorou who he is today owner in the store “German” in Alimos comes from the village Sykies of Karditsa but lives with his family in Athens.
On Sundays when his store is closed, he takes it drone and does miracles. In fact, from 2015 he started to immortalize with his drone the beauties of our country from above and to publish them in Internet. The comments he even gets from Europeans who love Greece are amazing.
Because it shows that it is not known. From mountains up to rivers. From mountain villages that are not even shown on the map to traditional bridges. Defying them many times bad conditions prevailing in the mountains but always having the right company for support photographs or videotapes issues and then promotes them through his channel “Nature Drone by Makis Theodoros” on you tube.
All these unknown beauties of Greece are displayed abroad and so through the hobby of Makis Theodoros our country is advertised from above. We looked for him and asked him to tell us about his hobby. It is a pity that Tourism service has not yet utilized this work of his.
What are your favorite places to shoot?
I would like to start by saying that Greece has a lot beautiful places, mainly mountainous which in my opinion are not well-publicized, although its potential mountain and winter tourism in our country is great. Hailing from a village, Sykies, Karditsa, I have always liked to see her ridge of Agrafa from the window of my paternal home every morning I woke up for school. Thus, the Agrafa constitute favorite destination for taking photos and videos from above with a drone. Also, Olympus for me is something unique and special, that you do not climb even once in your life, you will never be able to understand the magic! He also has a special place in my heart Lakmos with Drakolimni Verliga, the dragon lake of Tymfi, the Gistova in Grammos and his Smolika.
What is the response in Greece and what is abroad?
Abroad, there is more interest and response for mountain tourism than in Greece. interesting and by the Greeks.
How much time do you spend making a good spin?
To be able to make a proper spin with drone it takes time and effort. First of all, to be in a mountainous place or on a mountain top is not so easy. Should time devoted to the organization of the trip and the topics you aim to bring up. Second, you must have it proper equipment, the company and carry for many hours and the car can not go up to the top. You should also time to be an ally and take advantage of the ideal conditions for video recording. So you understand that to get an issue out it can be done in 2 and 3 days, sometimes difficult weather conditions. Finally, long hours of editing the shots taken for the final video.
How much does this idea cost?
That’s a good question. I believe the cost is the most important inhibitor factor to deal with something like this, since in addition to the fact that in order to do it you have to like it a lot and endure the difficulties of the mountain, the cost to do it is huge, in order to constantly have new topics and upload to the channel . of y-tube. First, you need one off-road car to be able to climb these difficult peaks. Second, you need to buy the right personal equipment to climb, especially in winter, and to camps if you are far away from a hotel or shelter.
Also, food is a big cost. Finally, before technological equipment who must often him you upgrade with a new one in as technology evolves rapidly. For example, the cameras and drones are constantly evolving and you are forced to buy whatever is coming out to continue to create an excellent result.
Is there financial support for advertising?
There is no help by the competent bodies such as ΕΟΤ. Unfortunately, what we do who love nature and mountain destinations is not recognized. We are obliged to we pay our expenses for the promotion of mountain areas and not those in charge. Besides, I find that there is a lack of utilization and promotion of mountain destinations in our country.
The Greek buno has really incredible potential and beauties but also beautiful unused mountain villages which could in the future be a pole of attraction for him domestic and foreign tourism.
Has the Ministry of Tourism helped?
Assistance from the Ministry of Tourism is non-existent, no one approaches me and I can not understand the reason, since if you pay attention to my issues, they are nowhere in any projection of our country. Probably a factor as to why they’re doing so poorly.
Who has approached you seeing your work?
After some time, about 2 years a channel watching my work through my channel on you tube, they approached me to give them a video to present on their shows for free and at no cost. I had no objection and gave them what I asked for with a simple reference to my channel and my name. I would also like to emphasize that local authorities of the areas I go to, recognizing what I do, often with host, I provide valuable tips for their area that they definitely know better!
Thus, the local authorities provide valuable assistance to capture all the beauties of their areas and to promote them together on the various social networks to promote tourism in their area. What I want to emphasize is that specific news sites and local online newspapers my videos from my you tube channel without informing me and without mentioning me. I would also like to refer to the site of the remarkable journalist, Christos Vassilopoulos, in the Time Machine where there are many of my videos in his articles for the promotion of the country. I have a very good cooperation with him and I thank him very much.
Has the company you work for – you are the owner and manager of the Germanou store in Alimos – been interested in this project?
Of course has been interested and we are in discussions about a project that will be released in the future.
What are your goals?
My goal is through my love for mountainous Greece, to promote my country abroad but also inside my channel. I have been particularly concerned with Evrytanian Agrafa where local authorities with Mayor of Agrafa Mr. Alexandros Kardambiki and the mountaineering club of Agrafa have embraced me and help me as no one else promotes their beautiful places, in order to increase the number of visitors and tourism in their area.
I am also very interested in Olympus, the mountain of the gods , which has enchanted me and visits it every year with friends and hosts many days in the shelters of the plateau of the muses and specifically in “Kakkalos” and “Giosos Apostolidis”.
What would you expect from the competent body dealing with tourism?
I would like the competent bodies of the Ministry of Tourism to contact me and we should cooperate together for view of mountain areas of our country that are so in need. It is worth noting that our mountainous mainland needs to be equipped with suitable roads, modern infrastructure, hotels and various outdoor activities. At the same time, the mountain villages must be developed not to be abandoned to their fate like now. Let us not forget that the Greek mountains can offer unique experiences to women and it is the duty of the competent bodies to promote mountain tourism.
