Toulouse. Théo Arribagé extends the good series
After two recent titles in Doha, the Stade Toulousain player was again crowned in doubles, this time with a Bulgarian.
“I didn’t know him. I sent him a message on Instagram. He had good results in doubles lately. And I learned that he was training in Nice and that he spoke French fluently.” This is how Théo Arribagé (Stade Toulousain) made contact last week in Monastir (Tunisia, ITF $25,000) with the Bulgarian Alexander Donski. A first try transformed into a coronation, the fifth in the career of the Stadiste, whose two previous titles in doubles had been obtained in Doha (Qatar) between December 13 and January 2.
“In Tunisia, our styles of play corresponded very well. Our level clearly increased over the matches. In the semis, we were trailing 8 points to 6 in the super tie-break (4-6, 6-3, 11- 9). In the final, we were in the lead with a score of 6-2, 4-1 and ball 5-1. Our opponents then came back into the match. But we reacted well in the super tie-break (6 -2, 5-7, 10-7)”, explains Théo, who came out of the singles qualifier before falling in the 1st round.
Several options in his agenda for the coming weeks
“Playing two, I feel it’s beneficial for singles. But what I do in doubles, I still have trouble applying it individually,” allows the 21-year-old. This week he is still in Monastir for another ITF tournament. In singles, the adventure stopped at the last round of the “qualifiers”. As for the double, this time with his compatriot Titouan Droguet, the Stadiste will play a new half.
Finally, concerning his agenda, the program is not completely defined. “I have several options: either I promote singles and I played $15,000 in Portugal in February, or I try to sign in Challengers in doubles and I don’t play singles, or I play on the two tables to go to Turkey on a $ 25,000. I will discuss all that with my coach”, details the protege of Julien Gillet.
