During a trip between Toulouse and Montauban, the driver of a truck had, without realizing it, lost his load: two chemical toilet cabins. He was fired.
And there… it’s the mess. On September 29, leaving Toulouse, the driver of a truck was honked by dozens of motorists. He has just lost his load, two chemical toilet cabins, on the A62 motorway, towards Bordeaux, without realizing it.
“I thought I had correctly attached the two WC cabins. But it turned out that one of the straps was in a bad state, which I had not noticed. It would have broken while I was driving”, says Rudi , the driver. By falling, the WC cabins would have caused the slight collision of two cars.
Four months after this unfortunate episode, last weekend, Rudi learned of his dismissal. “I received my schedule by email. I wanted to modify certain schedules. I automatically called my boss to discuss it. I learned that I was fired”, confides the driver, in incomprehension. He then asks for the reasons for this dismissal which he considers “abusive”.
“My boss then explained to me that when I inadvertently dropped the two toilets, it was a major fault, which moreover was reported in La Dépêche du Midi. However, my trial period had all the same been extended…”. Rudi continues: “I am 57 years old. Finding a job becomes a little more complicated every year. I sincerely thought that I was going to get this CDI.”
“He made several mistakes…”
When contacted, the company that employed the driver acknowledged: “Rudi was with us during a trial period. Obviously, the fact that he lost two toilet cabins on the highway did not play in his favour. It was his responsibility to ensure that the straps are in good condition. In view of the consequences that it had and that it could have had, it is a serious fault.
But the manager of the company assures that the breach of his contract is due “to an accumulation of things”. A second chance had already been given to him. His probationary period was extended for two months in November. “I’m not going to reveal everything. There is however a whole list of faults which justify our decision”, he abounds. For his part, Rudi will resume his job search. He hopes the next one will be good.
