Vehicle accidents occurred at a time when the Central Bohemian Region was hit by a snowstorm.
“The first accident was reported to be a car and truck accident, the cause of which was not adapting the driving speed to the condition and nature of the road to the weather conditions,” said Suchánková. According to her, bad weather conditions also played a role, along with not keeping a safe distance.
Shortly after the event was announced, rescuers from the Central Bohemian Region activated a trauma plan for the fact that there was a high number of injured. In the end, only six people were injured in the large-scale accident. Two suffered moderate injuries, the helicopter transported them to the hospital in Motol.
The clearing work lasted 11 hours, the motorway in the direction of Prague was not fully cleared until 22:20, and in the direction of Pilsen at approximately 7 pm. Firefighters also called an evacuation bus to the incident. The uninjured participants in the accident were given tea or coffee and could wait in the heat until their cars were towed and someone picked them up.
Crumpled cars and truck wrecks are received by a fire truck crane. A total of eleven fire brigades intervened on the spot, eight from the Central Bohemian Region and three from the Pilsen Region.
