Switzerland is ready for the next Russian-American summit — President – Russian Politics & Diplomacy
Geneva, January 21st. /TASS/. Switzerland has expressed its willingness to host the next possible Russia-US summit, President Ignazio Cassis told TASS on Friday.
“Switzerland is always ready to host a meeting between these states to promote resolutions aimed at establishing peace and security around the world,” said the President.
Talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken took place in Geneva on Friday. After that, Cassis held bilateral meetings with them, discussing security issues in Europe, transatlantic relations, and developments on the Russian-Ukrainian border. “Switzerland is concerned about the growing tensions. We firmly believe that dialogue is the only way to strengthen security in Europe,” said the Swiss head of state at a press conference, referring to the country’s willingness “to offer its good offices when they would be useful and necessary .”
In mid-June 2021, Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden met in Geneva. The talks took place behind closed doors for nearly two hours and were constructive, according to both sides. The Geneva talks between Russia and the US were their first since 2018.
