The last farewell to film director Dušan Klein, who died on January 9 at the age of 82, began in the crematorium in Strašnice, Prague, on an hour before noon. Musician Jaroslav Uhlíř, director of Czech Television Petr Dvořák and Klein’s student and director Jiří Strach, who delivered a mourning speech, were among the first to come to say goodbye to the director and screenwriter, who is most famous for their series of films about “poets”.

As students at FAMU, we not only learned from him how to film, but we also tried to soak up the charisma of humanity that is needed for the films that the creators will survive, “Strach told reporters in front of the crematorium, in front of which Klein’s photograph is located, and a book of condolences is issued.
Friday’s mourning ceremony was preceded last Friday by Klein’s funeral in a close family circle. In addition to Strach’s performance, the ceremony will also include short demonstrations to commemorate Klein’s work and the memories of various personalities. The musical accompaniment will be provided by the personal composer Petr Malásek. The ceremonial hall is to be open for an hour and a half.
The success of poets
The first three parts of Klein’s legendary “poetry” series in the 1980s attracted over five million viewers. The trilogy also saw post-revolutionary sequels reflecting the new reality, three volumes were created in 1993, 2004 and 2016. The last part, How Poets Wait for a Miracle, was recorded under the subtitle The End of Legend.

Another of Klein’s works is the bitter satire The Good Pigeons Return from 1988. In the main role with Milan Kňažek, it takes place in an anti-alcohol hospital. In the early 1990s, Klein was successful with the television detective series Sins for Father Knox, based on a design by Josef Škvorecký.
Klein studied film directing at FAMU in Prague from 1975 to 1991 and was the director of the Barrandov Film Studio. His other successful films included a film adaptation of Bohumil Hrabal’s short story Andělské oči.
She devoted herself to television production mainly in the 1990s, bringing, among other things, the series Guardians of the Soul, Married Drowning and Confectionery. Klein also worked on the series Streets. Nevertheless, filmmaking was key for him.
Director Klein, who also taught at FAMU, had two sons with his wife Silver. He has had major health problems in recent years.
