Four home wins and two away wins brought the penultimate day of the first phase of the regular season in the Alps Hockey League. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors and EHC Lustenau were successful both away and in the shootout. Table leader HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice celebrated a double-digit victory over Steel Wings Linz. The BEMER VEU Feldkirch is already introducing the seventh success in a row. In addition, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and the Vienna Capitals Silver were successful.
Next Saturday is the last matchday of the first phase of the regular season. The top 6 teams then continue to play in the Master Round. All other teams will compete in the qualifying round for the remaining post-season spots. All games that are postponed in the first phase of the regular season due to medical precautions will not be rescheduled and will therefore be canceled without replacement.
Feldkirch could not be stopped by Fassa either
The BEMER VEU Feldkirch has already clinched its seventh win in a row and was therefore also undefeated by the SHC Fassa Falcons. For the Italians it was the first defeat after an unbelievable eight wins in a row, their last game was on December 29th. After a goalless third, Dylan Stanley struck early in the middle to give VEU the lead. The Canadian also made it 3-0. Steven Birnstill made it 2-0 on the power play. VEU goalkeeper Alex Caffi was able to parry all 29 shots on his goal and thus celebrate his second shutout of the season.
Lustenau and young bulls successful in the shootout
EHC Lustenau and Red Bull Hockey Juniors were both successful away and in the shootout. The EHC got the upper hand at second-placed Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey with a 2-1 SO. Dominic Haberl (20th) scored the lead for Vorarlberg in regular time. In the shootout it was Remy Giftopoulos who converted the decisive penalty. Lustenau is still in fourth place in the table and can no longer be pushed out of the top 6.
Right in front of them are the Rittner Buam, who lost 3:4-SO to the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. In a very balanced game, the guests from Salzburg were able to take revenge for the clear 2:8 smack from the first leg. Thomas Heigl was the only player on the power play, bringing traffic and the Young Bulls a big step closer to the Master Round. Currently in fifth place, RBJ can fix the top 6 on their own with a win on the last day of the first phase of the regular season.
Table leader Jesenice wins double digits
The Steel Wings Linz didn’t stand a chance against table leader HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. The Slovenians clearly had the upper hand with 11:3. Jesenice scored six times in the final section. After the first third it is still 1:1. Jesperi Viikila was the most successful player of the evening with three goals. While JES already brought in their ninth win in a row, SWL conceded their ninth defeat from the past ten games.
Broncos and Capitals Silver narrowly win
Both the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and the Vienna Capitals Silver won at home. While the Broncos’ 4-2 win over EC-KAC Future Team came as no surprise, Vienna’s 3-2 win over HC Gherdeina Valgardena.it did come as a surprise. In the sixth AHL duel between the two teams, it was the second win for VCS, with Christoph Draschkowitz tying up his first brace. For Val Gardena, on the other hand, the descent continues. Due to the fourth defeat in a row, the top 6 are out of reach. They are currently under the table. Despite their sixth win of the season, the Silver Caps remain at the bottom of the table.
For Sterzing it was the second win in a row. The Future Team, on the other hand, has already suffered their fourth defeat in a row. The team from Klagenfurt already suffered their twelfth defeat in a row away from home. After two thirds the score was still balanced (2:2). In the final section, the hosts scored twice and thus got the twelfth victory over KFT in the 16th AHL duel.
