Friends mourn Casper who was stabbed to death in Amsterdam Osdorp: “He was not afraid of anything”
The 29-year-old man who was stabbed to death while working on the Meer en Vaart street in Amsterdam Osdorp is Casper Verheijen from Nijmegen. With great reports, the friends of the great skateboarding talent learned of his passing. “This is so unjust, so deeply and deeply sad.” Today it was announced that one more suspect is in custody.
What exactly happened on the fatal afternoon in Amsterdam Osdorp is still being investigated. Presumably he got into an altercation in the street while working, he was a roofer, with simple guys. His friends don’t know what the fight was about. There are currently three underage suspects: two aged 16 and one aged 15. The latter is still huge.
Dutch top level
Casper was working in Amsterdam on Tuesday afternoon, but in his hometown of Nijmegen he is known as a fanatic skateboarder. Andor van den Boom has a skate shop there 24/7 in the center and saw Casper regularly. “Casper was nice to the house and he came into the store when he was young,” says the store owner. “Ten years ago he really got it again and he went for it. Really to a higher level, Dutch top level. He was really a super talent. And then this news. Then you really think of shit, really intense.”
age suspects
Seth Rijkers also knew him well, because together they ran an online skate shop and often went out to skateboard themselves. Although he had less contact with him over the years, the news hit like a bomb. “Normally you actually read and then you think damn it,” said childhood friend Seth. Then you like how is it possible? Especially the age of those boys, because what do you want to walk around with knives in your pocket and then really do something with them. That’s just not right.”
“He was very good and had a unique style, he was not afraid of anything and also learned new tricks very quickly”
confrontation
The reports and misunderstanding about the fatal quarrel is great. They do, however, underline one thing: Casper was a boy who did not shy away from a confrontation to address someone about antisocial behaviour. They think it is important that he later becomes a skateboard icon of Nijmegen. If you want to skateboard, according to them he was one of the best.
“He was very good and had a unique style, he was not afraid of anything and also learned new tricks very quickly,” said Seth Rijkers. “He was hard and could skateboard really hard. Nice to see.” Andor van den Boom also had the unique talent that Casper had. “We have a skate team with ten of the best talents in Nijmegen and the surrounding area”, he continues. “He was still head and shoulders above that. Nobody could match that level, really.”
