an autonomous electric shuttle is under development in Caen
The start-up NEAC-Industrie (autonomous electric shuttle on the canal) plans to develop innovative models of electric and unmanned river boats. Since the summer of 2021, it has been testing a prototype on the Caen canal (Calvados). The operation consists of carrying out browsing experiences to improve the device. According to the founders of the young company, the piloting system is currently capable of detecting the environment around the device thanks to image recognition.
The NEAC project is carried out in collaboration with the Caen la mer urban community (Normandy), the Ports de Normandie group, the university and the engineering school of Caen. This is an initiative aimed at creating a non-polluting and autonomous transport solution that will be made available to residents. Remember that the concept of this river shuttle is based on artificial intelligence technology to maneuver without the need for human intervention. The model developed on the Caen canal will be able to carry 8 to 12 people.
