ALL ANTWERP. “I saw snow for the first time when I was 22” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Amir Torres (26).
“It’s so dark in here. I’m not used to that. In Mexico the sun always shines and it is always light. I’m from northern Mexico and it’s hot and cloudy there. It might be a little cooler there three days a year. But then it is still 10 degrees. Then everyone wears their thickest sweater to be able to wear it once a year. I used to be really tired of the sun, but now that I live in Belgium, I understand that I do miss the beautiful weather.”
“I have been here for a few years to study at the Fashion Academy in Antwerp. I am now in my fourth year. In the first year here I saw snow in real life for the first time in my life. I think it’s beautiful but it looks fake, like in the movie. I was at school when it started snowing. The way back home was beautiful.”
“This summer I’m going to visit Mexico. Just to see my family. I’m in my last year now, but I think I’ll stay here after my studies. The fashion sector in Europe is large, I want to get something out of that. I will have to save a little, because life is very expensive. I still have to receive that. A coffee is a lot more expensive than in Mexico.” (rvre)
