25,000 students are currently positive for COVID-19
The Academy of Toulouse takes stock of the situation of COVID-19 in schools. More than 25,000 students at the academy are currently testing positive for COVID-19. Primary schools are particularly supported by the Omicron wave.
The rate of contamination with the Omicron variant has been breaking records for a few days in France, but also in Occitania. This Friday, January 21, thetoulouse academy reports on the epidemic situation of schools in the eight departments that make up the academy. Several structures are currently closed after detecting positive cases of COVID-19.
More than 25,000 students tested positive for Covid-19
According to the data indicated on Thursday January 20 by the Academy of Toulouse, over the last seven days, 25,060 students of the Academy have tested positive for COVID-19. This represents a contamination rate of 4.68% out of a total of 534,617 students. In 24 hours, 3,849 new cases were registered.
The latter are not the only ones to be hit by the Omicron wave. The contamination rate among the teaching staff of the academy currently stands at 7.72%. Indeed, 4,042 positive cases were detected in seven days, out of a total of 52,301 people. In 24 hours, 814 new cases were registered.
9 primary schools closed
Among the 3,093 school structures of the academy, 9 schools had to close their doors due to positive cases of covid-19, a figure which represents a reasonable rate of 0.29%.
However, these closures only concern primary schools. For the time being, no college or high school has closed doors.
Only four departments are affected by school closures. The Tarn-et-Garonne is at the top of the ranking with four primary schools currently closed. In Ariège, as in the Tarn, two schools are closed, against only one in Haute-Garonne.
716 classes closed
As a reminder, the rule requiring the closure of a class when three positive cases of COVID-19 are detected, was removed in December. From now on, in accordance with the health protocol of January 14, 2022, contact case students must carry out a self-test on D0, D+2 and D+4 and can return to class with a certificate justifying that the first test is positive.
Currently, 716 out of 31,380 classes at the Toulouse Academy are closed, the vast majority of which concern primary schools.
