Toulouse. The Spacer’s were indeed the Pothron size
The young receiver-attacker from Toulouse celebrated his first start of the season by being a major player in this success at home against Plessis-Robinson.
Antoine Pothron (19) had never started in the starting six this season. It’s chosen done since last night. “I didn’t want to change my habits, I stayed in my routine and I tried to bring what was expected of me,” he rewinded after the third victory at home for the Toulouse this season (6 defeats).
Number 5 in the back, the young receiver-attacker (1m98, 70 kg) even had the privilege of starting the debates in the service. Author of thirteen points in total, he largely participated in the revolt of Spacer’s who remained on nine defeats in ten games before kick-off. “I especially have a role to play in reception, after if I can bring points it’s even better”, smiled the one who took over volleyball at Rezé, after having touched football and tennis. Son of a renowned technician in the field, Antoine arrived in Toulouse last summer from the Center National de Volley-Ball (Ligue B). He joined smuggler Ugo Quinquis, a childhood friend, also from Rezé, who also took part in the party yesterday, taking over from Paul d’Hollander at the start of the game.
The match point was for him…
Already author of a remarkable performance last week in Nice (17 points), where despite the defeat (2-3) he had perfectly held his rank after coming off the bench in the relay of his captain Gijs Jorna, the young international is more and more often used by his trainer Stéphane Sapinart. Before kick-off, we also saw him chatting at length with the libero Facundo Santucci, one of the group’s captains. “I feel good in this team and everyone has given me confidence”, appreciates the young U19 international.
Ultimate proof that he is more than ever one of the options chosen by his coach: he is the one his coach chose during his final downtime to inherit the last ball of the match. Result of the races: a winning attack which finally freed his people after a long period of doubt. Magic Pothron?
