The city of Toulouse offers its senior citizens a municipal mutual fund. It will be available from January 31.
It was a campaign promise made during the 2020 municipal elections. Toulouse will offer its senior residents complementary health insurance. This health insurance is intended for citizens over 60 who are less well off. The mayor of the Pink City, Jean-Luc Moudenc, signed an agreement with the Just mutual fund on Monday 17 January.
“Often hampered by membership fees which increase with age or by the absence of participation from an employer when they are retired, the over 60s are particularly concerned by the renunciation of care”, notes the town hall of Toulouse in a press release. “To this is often added a lack of information and support.”
To overcome this lack of information and support, hotlines will be held in municipal premises in districts of Toulouse, in order to inform and advise the seniors required from 31 December.
After seniors, mutual insurance for students and job seekers in Toulouse
This mutual fund for seniors is a first step for the mayor of Toulouse. Indeed, a complementary municipal health is also granted for students and for job seekers. To offer this service, the City negotiates “group” rates (as in companies for employees) with mutual insurance companies, which then offer advantageous formulas to residents.
In Haute-Garonne, eleven municipalities have already implemented this system, including Plaisance-du-Touch, Cugnaux, Fonbeauzard, Gagnac, Pibrac, Cépet, Ondes, L’Union and Gratentour.
