LIBEŇÁK DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO RECONSTRUCT

We did it. We signed a contract with the contractor of the reconstruction of the Libeň Bridge and not only that. During the construction of the entire junction from Manín to Palmovka in the length of 1,200 meters, including the retention tank and anti-flood measures. Nothing stands in the way of the beginning. You can’t imagine a stone falling from my heart. This was the reason why I went into it with PRAGUE. Change something and move for the better.

We will start construction immediately, I will be able to cross out my first big task. Senator I will not lie. A thorny path led to this. They threw sticks at our feet. In the end, it worked. We gradually refuted the claim that Libeňák does not have it and is falling. It was a lie. During diagnostics, it handled an extreme load of 547 tons on each arc. With small steps, we gradually returned the most to normal. The original candelabra lit up in 2019. Trams started whistling along it again at full speed a year later. The unnecessary restriction lasted ten years.

Who would have said that seven years ago, when I studied all the materials in detail at the time and encouraged past deputies to save the most? What a tremendous amount of work awaited us to save the architectural monument of incalculable value. Two petitions, admission to the municipality, diagnostics, other and more demanding load tests and preparation of a new project. Everything went to the present day.

The competition was also unique in that we competed with TSK Prague not only for the price, but also for the first time in the city’s history and for the length of the tram stop. According to the original project, it was to last two to three years. We pulled it down for one, with pedestrians and cyclists always crossing the river over temporary footbridges. Public transport will be brought to the bridge from both sides. The first works will start this year.

Let’s start with the footbridge and the transfer of utilities. Even during the construction, the people of Prague will be able to move between Libní and Holešovice. There is nothing to fear. And what can we look forward to after the reconstruction?

We will preserve the most valuable arch structures by architect Pavel Janák. The reconstructed arches will be connected by newly designed bridge structures, which are based on the architect’s original sketches. Thanks to the new bridges, the Libeň Bridge also meets the flood protection criteria. In the event of a flood, it will allow water to protect and reduce the level of spills into Karlín and Holešovice. We will supplement the new bridges with barrier-free ramps on Rohan Island, which is to become a new beautiful park.

That’s it. We want it done by 2025. Thanks to everyone who ever worked for the renovation. I believe you all enjoy as much as I do.
