Police arrest main suspect of homophobic violence at Kunstberg (Brussels)
The local police of the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone has arrested a suspect in a serious case of violent theft for months. This is reported by the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday.
The facts occurred at the beginning of July 2021 at the Mont des Arts in Brussels. Two men were verbally abused there because of their sexual orientation. Tempers ran high and the suspect drummed up a group of acquaintances who even showed up on the spot later.
What followed was a case of extreme violence in which one of the group was severely beaten. He received several blows and received a smashed bottle in the face of which he would be left with a permanent scar. Wallet and mobile phone were also stolen by the perpetrators. The victim was taken to hospital with serious but not critical injuries. His partner was also sent to the hospital in severe shock.
When the patrols arrived, the perpetrators had already fled. Investigation by the local detective eventually led to the main suspect in the case. He was arrested on Monday, January 18. It is about a twenty-something who is not ready for his test piece. If the suspect had already come into contact with the police several times for other voluntary assault and battery, there was theft. After interrogation, the suspect was brought before the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. It goes on.
