P+R Linkeroever can be reached via a following the new days has been opened. A bicycle tunnel under the Blancefloerlaan (N70) and under the parking building offers cyclists a safe and conflict-free building and De Lijn has a new tram stop at it. “We provide a wide range of trams – three tram lines, 18 trams per hour – to the center of Antwerp”, says Flemish Minister of Mobility Lydia Peeters (Open VLD). “This way we avoid traffic jams in and around the center of Antwerp.”
The new infrastructure cut-through traffic from the consequences should residential centers be public, more space will be freed up for other road users and transport. You can now drive more smoothly to and from the E17 and potentially dangerous intersections between motorized traffic and cyclists are more motorized. Both the Flemish government and the authorities of Antwerp and Zwijndrecht hope that the P+R and associated facilities can play a major role in the ‘modal shift’ towards less (own) car use.
