He has worn the captain’s armband at FC Liefering in the 2nd division since this season, Lukas Wallner is also following the Red Bull Salzburg juniors in the round of 16 in the UEFA Youth League and now the defender can prove himself as part of the winter preparations with the Mozartstadt professional team. Both in the 6-0 friendly win against second division SKU Amstetten and in the rehearsal against SV Ried (3-1), Wallner was able to show himself to the fighting team and delivered a decent performance in each case. “Now after the first week they were satisfied so far, and I also think that I did it solidly,” says the youngster at the “club page”.
“My role model was always Sergio Ramos”
The 18-year-old central defender led Lieferinger onto the field as captain in twelve 2nd division games. Under coach Rene Aufhauen, the defensive professional is one of the absolute regulars and was also able to gain some experience at international level with five appearances in the UEFA Youth League. There, the “Young Bulls” also managed to advance to the round of 16 in a prominent group. For the time being, however, Wallner has to be content with the role of the “chick” for the Salzburg pros. “In training, of course, you’re no longer the boss on the pitch, but rather someone who carries the balls away. But in Liefering it was the same at the beginning, as a new player I was at the bottom of the ranking at first,” he says the youngster die situation sporty.
In 2013, at the tender age of ten, Wallner switched to the offspring of the Austrian series champion, defied several youth teams and was awarded his first professional contract at the end of 2021, which binds him to the league croesus until 2025. The defender is pleased that he has made it this far: “The big goal was already there back then. Of course, childish fun was the priority, but in the background it was always that you want to make it to the top and play in a big stadium at some point.” In doing so, he oriented himself to an international star: “My role model was always Sergio Ramos, because he also plays harder in the game when it’s necessary. Also because, like me, he’s strong in the air and attacking. I’ve always tried to learn a thing or two from him.”
The first steps with the pros have now been taken, the adjustment to the higher level is still in full swing, as Wallner says: “It’s definitely a tough training session, I have to say that. It’s a big step or an increase from Liefering here to the professionals. But the boys and men have accepted me very well and I feel right at home in the team.” In the spring, the 18-year-old will be able to show himself again at FC Liefering and in the Youth League. In any case, the year-old is probably looking forward to his first Bundesliga game: “That depends entirely on my performance, here in the spring preparations and also at Liefering, where I will definitely still play games. It is important to recommend yourself and then we will see when the time is right.”
