Judo. More than 30 Portuguese at the Portuguese Grand Prix
The “Olympics” Catarina Costa, Telma Monteiro, Patrícia Sampaio, Anri Egutidze and Jorge Fonseca lead the more than 30 Portuguese judokas who compete in the premiere of the Portuguese Grand Prix, from 28 to 30 January.
Portugal, hosting the World Cups and then the Open, receives for its turn a Grand Prix, contracted last year with the International Judo Federation and which brings some of the best literary judokas to Almada.
Costa has, from eight Portuguese athletes20 logo-7, Olympic Games, namely Catarina Sampaio (-48 kg), Anri Egutze (-90 kg) kg) and Jorge Fonseca (-100 kg).
Regarding the Games, Portugal will no longer have judoka Joana Ramos in this Grand Prix, who ended her athletic career and joined the Federation’s technical team, or Bárbara Timo and Rochele Nunes, injured.
Timo, who went on to compete at -63 kg, coming down from -70 kg, was recently operated on for a small toe injury, and Rochele Nunes (+78 kg) is recovering from the torn ligaments and meniscus suffered in October without Grand Slam of Paris.
In the list of 35 Portuguese judokas registered, in a mix of youth experience, Jorge Fonseca, two-time world champion and international bronze in Tokyo 2020, is the strongest name, along with Telma Monteiro, bronze in Rio 2016 and technology Medal on the circuit.
The Portuguese Grand Prix will take place between Friday, January 28, the day dedicated to the lighter weights, and Sunday, closing the competition with the heaviest categories.
35 judges will be accompanied by the technical team by Ana Hormigo, Pedro Soares, Marco Morais, Joana Ramos, António Saraiva and Jerónimo Ferreira.
Some of the approximately 46 athletes from 46 of the five continents are expected to participate in the competition, some of whom are from the elite of world judo.
