″This is the budget that gives Lisbon the energy to recover from the pandemic″, says Moedas
The municipal budget of Lisbon is presented this Thursday, one day after the PS announced its abstention in the vote. In a communication sent to the newsrooms, the municipality Carlos Moedas presents the budget as being “a closer, more solidary, more innovative and more sustainable vision”.
Elected in September 2021, the Lisbon executive foresees an expense of 1.16 billion euros for this year, according to vice-president Filipe Anacoreta Correia. To Carlos Moedas, “this is a budget with concrete and decisive proposals for the city”, with a focus on people, “with a health plan for the elderly”. In addition, there is “increased support for day care and education”.
In the document, there is also a forecast of a return of more than “seven million euros in taxes” to families. With a “bet on the future”, the municipal budget also provides for 40% of the budget for mobility in Lisbon, “to make it more sustainable”.
Regarding housing – where more than 100 million euros will be invested – Carlos Moedas considers this area a “great challenge for the city” that needs to be solved.
In the opinion of the mayor, “the budget that brings research to the future of the city”.
Carlos Moedas’ first municipal budget will be approved with the abstention of the five councilors of the PS to enable. The other councilors for the coalition between the movement elected Citizens for Lisbon, PS and Livre will vote against the budget.
