“Yes” again from the CoE for the removal of the ancients in Thessaloniki
Once again, the Council of State said “yes” to the continuation of the removal of the authorities that have come to light due to the construction works of the Venizelos station of the Thessaloniki Metro.
In particular, with the 6/2022 decision of the Suspension Committee of the Plenary Session of the CoE, it decided that the removal of the antiquities can continue until the construction works of the station are finished, at which time the antiquities can be relocated there.
A statement from the CoE stated that the Committee on Suspensions of the Plenary Session had examined the allegations of irreparable damage to the antiquities. He considered that “this damage is not probable, precisely because the relevant study has already been modified as indicated by the archaeological services, before the relevant positive opinion of the Central Archaeological Council, is constantly examined at the level of each archaeological unit separately, and additional studies are planned. for the settlement and the promotion of the antiquities, before their repositioning in the station, after its construction “.
It is noted, finally, that, as it appears from the decision, similar transfers have been made in the past, such as the one concerning the section of the same antiquities of Venizelos station, which has already been transferred pursuant to a ministerial decision of 2017, the legality of which has not been challenged.
