Ukraine called on the UN to use its mandate to avoid the worst-case scenario of Russian aggression
The UN General Assembly must make full use of its mandate to maintain peace and security in order to avoid a worst-case scenario in the deployment of Russian troops near the codons of Ukraine.
The decision on this decision in the Ukrainian delegation, which was announced at an informal meeting of the General Assembly on the occasion of the report of the head of the GA on the desired statements of the 76th session is the responsible Deputy Ambassador of Ukraine to Yuri Vitrenko.
He accepts that the eighth anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine will pass in a month. “Instead of responding to the calls of the international community, Russia has decided increase military threats and danger, “he said.
In these cases, Russia’s attempts to present itself as “guarantee security”, which is extremely cynical, Vitrenko added.
According to him, Russia’s categorical demands cannot be accepted. Ukraine, as an independent European state, has the sovereign right to choose its own security measures, he said. Russia’s de-escalation of the situation on Ukraine’s borders and its withdrawal from Donbass and Crimea should be an appropriate point for any discussion on security guarantees in the Euro-Atlantic area.
Vitrenko called on UN General Assembly President Abdullah Shahid to help the GA make full use of its mandate to maintain international peace and security to avoid a worst-case scenario.
As it turned out, low diplomatic events between the United States and Russia, as well as within NATO and the OSCE, took place last week, during which the West expressed its rejection of Russia’s ultimatum contained in Russia’s draft treaties on security guarantees for Russia and the United States. Russia has said it is awaiting a written response to its proposals and continues to threaten “military action.”
This is a concentration against the background of the continuation of Russian troops on the borders of Ukraine and, in particular, their transfer to the territory of Belarus under the pretext of conducting joint “exercises”.
