Trade – Munich – Chambers for the end of 2G in retail in the southwest – Economy
Munich/Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – After the Bavarian Administrative Court suspended the 2G rule for retail in the Free State, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Baden-Württemberg are pushing for the end of this rule in the south-west as well. “This sales-inhibiting 2G regulation must also be abolished urgently in Baden-Württemberg,” demanded Anje Gering, General Manager of the IHK Bodensee-Oberschwaben on Wednesday. After the decision of the Bavarian court, she also sees the Baden-Württemberg state government under pressure to act, as otherwise there is a risk of shopping tourism distorting competition in the border regions.
2G means that only vaccinated and recovered people have access. After the verdict, Bavaria’s head of state chancellery, Florian Herrmann (CSU), said that 2G would be completely issued in retail. Bavaria followed a decision of the Prime Ministers’ Conference with the access restriction. But because of the difficulties in delimitation, “the regulation as in the supermarkets is now the simpler alternative”. Herrmann emphasized: “The FFP2 mask requirement in retail continues to apply and offers protection.”
The federal and state governments had agreed on the 2G rules for retail nationwide at the beginning of December. For Lower Saxony, the Higher Administrative Court in Lüneburg overturned the rules in mid-December because the judges felt that they were not necessary to further contain the corona pandemic and were not compatible with the general principle of equality.
The general manager of the German trade association, Stefan Genth, said: “Bavaria and Lower Saxony are paving the way for the other federal states. 2G in retail makes no sense and must be abolished again quickly.” Since the beginning of the pandemic, the food trade has shown that shopping with a mask, distance and hygiene concept is safe. “Political decision-makers in all federal states and at federal level must correct themselves and quickly override 2G when shopping.”
