Toulouse. Gijs Jorna: “Win a game as soon as possible”
The Spacer’s must break the negative spiral in which they have been stuck for ten games. Captain Gijs Jorna is waiting for this.
Gijs, you remain on nine defeats in the last ten games: how does the group experience this interminable black series?
Frankly, and I’m not saying this to be a joke, the atmosphere is really good within the group. In training, during matches, everyone is 100%/. Our problem, we all know it: we need victories! Taking a point in Nice (3-2 defeat on the last day, editor’s note) is not a bad result in absolute terms, but the concern is that in our situation we absolutely need to win games.
In Nice, as often this season, you still lacked realism when you were leading two sets to one. How to explain this feverishness when concluding?
I have at least six or seven examples of matches where we take zero points when we had the means to take at least two. We do everything very well for a good part of the set and at the supreme moment we don’t get anything. If we had the answer on would apply, you can believe me!
How do you get out of this negative spiral?
By winning a game! We are lucky that in sport everything can go very quickly. We also know that we are capable of producing very good volleyball, I am thinking in particular of the victory against Montpellier at home (3-0, on December 11, editor’s note). We have to take our responsibilities and win a match as quickly as possible to try to reverse the trend.
The reception of Plessis-Robinson this evening already seems essential.
Yes, it’s a very important game. We won there (3-1), I hope that will give us a little more confidence.
Are the play-offs promised to the first eight still a realistic objective in your opinion?
Everyone still has the play-offs in mind but we also have to be realistic: this morning we are twelfth (4 wins and 12 losses, editor’s note). To project too far does not help much. As long as we don’t win a game it doesn’t matter what the others do and that’s why our only objective is to win tonight. Point.
