Toulouse. Blues: which prime numbers?
If they win the competition, the Blues will pocket 40,000 euros each.
Before discussing the potential gains of tricolor handball players on the occasion of this Euro 2022, it is perhaps good to recall what is practiced in football, the sport most bankable on the Old Continent.
According to figures released by The Parisian last June, the partners of Kylian Mbappé (i.e. 26 players) and the members of the staff of the France team could each have pocketed up to 340,000 euros in the event of success during the European Championship finally won by the Italy.
For the record, this jackpot already amounted to 400,000 euros for the winners of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Even if they are not to be pitied, Nikola Karabatic, Ludovic Fabregas and others will be, whatever happens between now and January 30 in Budapest, far from the mark. Negotiated well in advance of the competition, their bonuses amount to 40,000 euros for the title, 20,000 euros for a place in the final and 10,000 euros for the bronze medal. Important precision, the French Handball Federation (FFHB) applies gender parity in this area.
But in case of premature elimination, you will understand, belt! Well, not exactly. All the days spent in blue indeed bring in between 200 and 350 euros paid to income by the FFHB. The delta is a function of the number of selections. From 1 to 39 capes, you receive 200 euros per day until Guillaume Gille releases you. Beyond that, it’s 350.
Compensated clubs
At this price, Captain Valentin Porte, one of the most experienced in the gang, should roughly receive just over 10,000 euros at the end of January. This accumulation of course does not replace the salary that Montpellier handball continues to pay him. In return, the MHB, like all the other international provider clubs, is compensated. Up to 454 euros per day and per player – in competition only – from the European Federation (EHF) and from 112 to 600 euros depending on the rounds during a World Cup (IHF). To this savings, we must add the 153 euros allocated by the FFHB for the French, Hugo Descat, Valentin Porte, Yanis Lenne and Julien Bos in this case.
“Not all national federations are as generous, there is no obligation to compensate, however, recognizes a leader familiar with the rates charged. Sometimes we do not receive anything to make our boys available.” In short, what is valid in France is not necessarily so in Argentina, Tunisia or Slovenia.
For the record, the median salary in Starligue is 7,000 euros net. The players of the France team are rather classified between 8,000 and 12,000 euros, with a glass ceiling around 15,000 euros. Except to be called Nikola Karabatic (Paris SG) or Dika Mem (Barcelona). Before joining his friend at Barça, Melvyn Richardson peaked at 14,000 euros in Montpellier.
