The Budapest office of the UN Counter-Terrorism Center will be given new tasks
The Budapest office of the UN Counter-Terrorism Center will be given new responsibilities, the Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs and Security Affairs said on Wednesday after meeting with Vladimir Voronkov, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Coordination.
Logging in from New York on his official community page, Péter Szijjártó said that more and more functions would be installed in Budapest. Such will be the case with the Balkan countries in the fight against terrorism, the establishment of a joint academy for the prevention of terrorism and the training of air security in Budapest.
The politician said that he was coordinating an increasing part of the UN’s counter-terrorism activities – Budapest.
The minister said he would meet with UN Secretary-General António Gutteres, with whom he said he did not have a common position on a number of issues, but there were issues where there was close co-operation.
The financial, migration and pandemic crises and challenges of the recent period have highlighted the need for much greater political cooperation and collaboration. “It would be time to discuss non-political ideologies when it comes to human lives,” he said, adding that the role of the United Nations should be strengthened and that it could count on Hungary in this organization.
