The Anti-Capitalist Overthrow in Athens gives an appointment to the Constitution

Sugar Mizzy January 19, 2022

The Anti-Capitalist Overthrow in Athens calls on the citizens to mobilize against the government management of the health crisis but also of the continuous price increases in basic goods.

The appointment for the “Action Day for Health and Dignity” is on Saturday, January 22, at 12 noon. Similar actions will be carried out in other cities.

The whole announcement

Joint Call of the Left Radical Anti-Capitalist Movements of Regions and Cities

We support the nationwide initiatives for coordination of actions

With a massive, dynamic, relentless struggle

It is time to end criminal government policy
Two years after the outbreak of the pandemic and the murderous policy of the government has created a nightmarish landscape for the health, life and dignity of the people. Despite the heroic efforts of the NSS health workers who have helped save thousands of patients, the death toll has exceeded 21,600. Dozens of our fellow human beings lose their lives every day or are confined to decimated hospitals, with inadequate infrastructure and few, exhausted staff.

Ahead of the issuance of the cases, the government continues to provide provocative service to the big business entrepreneurs, refusing not only to meet the demands for the shielding of the public health system, but even to not have sufficient, free tests. Huge queues gather outside diagnostic centers and pharmacies. Schools opened without any protection measures. EODY has collapsed. The NSS has accepted the resulting increase in deaths from Covid19 and the inability to meet other urgent medical needs. It selects other measures, bans and restrictions ostensibly to contain the pandemic and at the same time focuses on polarization, targeting, invocation of individual responsibility, segregation and ongoing assurances of a “pandemic end”.

While the rich increase their wealth, the poor are facing economic bleeding. Entire sections of workers are losing their incomes without any support, while a brutal class attack is taking place through unprecedented precision, low wages, high unemployment and pension cuts. This winter is darker, with more and more people unable to procure basic goods and basic necessities. Terrifying increases in energy (electricity and heating) condemn thousands to the cold, while in December alone more than 20 of our fellow human beings died in their attempt to heat their homes. Increases in food, tolls, transportation, basic goods are leading even more households into poverty. Even the detection and treatment of coronavirus by the speculation of health companies with the backs of the government on the means of protection, tests, drugs are an unbearable cost.

Both the current and all previous governments are responsible for the dissolution of the NSS and the social collapse. Instead of strengthening public health and taking protection measures in the face of the pandemic, the government is choosing to reduce health spending by € 820 million and social spending by 1.7 billion. €, while at the same time it increases the expenses for equipment and the reinforcement in personnel and means of the repressive forces.
At the same time, under the pretext of the pandemic, the government is intensifying its authoritarian attack on democratic rights and popular freedoms. It uses repression, dismissals, while constantly targeting trade unions, demonstrations, university asylum, refugee rights, etc. He turned the need for mass vaccination into a tool of shifting responsibilities, torpedoing the vaccination program as well.

We are faced with a widespread awareness of the government’s policy by all the dominant political forces in parliament, regions and municipalities. With the mutual support of the government, the ruling parties, the media and the employers, they want to convince us that this policy is a one-way street. To cover up the responsibilities of the EU, the class exploitation of the pandemic, the speculation of the pharmaceutical companies and the private clinics. The militant inaction of the official trade union movement helps them to impose a paralytic weakness.

The only way to deal with them in practice is the struggles of the “below”. Collective struggles and popular organization are our only way to take our lives into our own hands with a movement for our needs and rights. With strikes, escalation and solidarity with the health and teachers who are fighting.

Criminal policy and government must be defeated, overthrown. It is time for a popular counterattack. A large, old-fashioned fighting front that will claim but also impose a series of necessary measures for the protection and enforcement of the employed / unemployed and the youth:

Free PCR test on all and sundry. Distribution of FFP2 / KN95 masks. Sufficient quarantine period of paid leave for the period of hospitalization / recovery / waiting for results.
Effective extensive tracking system from EODY everywhere. Providence-care for the sick, elderly, vulnerable groups.
Workplace protection measures. Strengthening the MMM, increasing itineraries.

Safe operation of schools with 15 students per and with the recruitment of the necessary department. Undo the mergers of the sections. Regular disinfection of schools by special cooperation of the Municipality. Daily checks-traces by nurses, free tests and protective equipment.

NSS support by recruiting staff and strengthening equipment and infrastructure. Strengthening primary health. Order of private clinics, their inclusion in public planning. Immediate increase in health expenditures. Do not close any hospital, but instead open the closed units. Return of suspended sanitary.

Enhancing mass vaccination for all. Not in the divisions and the dark campaign against vaccination. Abolition of fines, suspension of work, dismissals and segregation of vaccines.
Financial support for the unemployed and workers, the occupations affected by the pandemic. Decent living for all the people. Increases in wages and pensions, unemployment benefit is with the minimum wage.

No to price increases for electricity, heating, food and public goods. Measures against accuracy, energy efficiency and housing insecurity. Prohibition of evictions, auctions, and provision of benefits. Barrier to rent increases. Housing programs for everyone. Write-off of debts of ordinary households to banks, state, PPC, etc.

Exclusively public electricity-energy and water services – Immediate nationalization of their private supply companies – Immediate and massive expansion of the beneficiaries of social tariffs with lower prices.

Tax exemptions for the poor and not for the rich – Abolition / reduction of VAT rates on food, electricity and other basic items.

Not in the circumvention of democratic rights and state authoritarianism. Not in the management of the pandemic with authoritarianism and repression, not in the measures of restriction of freedoms, additions and dismissals.

We fight all together in the streets of collective struggle. For work, “bread”, health, life and freedom.
We are constantly active with diverse activities in every place, neighborhood city and with central mass appointments:

On Saturday, January 22 at 12.00 in Syntagma and in the squares of all Greece “Day of Action for Health and Dignity”
On Saturday, February 5, “Pan-Hellenic day of action against electricity-heating increases & accuracy” with actions organized throughout the country.
