Search for Sonja Engelbrecht – police for further investigations
More than two centuries ago, 19-year-old Sonja Engelbrecht from Munich disappeared without a trace – until one of her bones was found near Kipfenberg. t-online asked how it is now being determined.
The search for other likely missing Sonja Engelbrecht for 26 years was stopped in November because of the onset of winter. At the request of t-online, a spokesman for the Munich police has now commented on the current status of the investigation.
Accordingly, the search in the forest area near the Bavarian Kipfenberg is still on hold. There, a forest worker had found a thigh bone in the summer that could be assigned to the then missing 19-year-old schoolgirl.
“We have just suspended the search,” said the spokesman. “The ground is frozen and hard. But the search dogs used need smells. But when the ground is frozen, then there’s no smell,” said the spokesman. “We need the spring. And then we will certainly continue our search,” asserted the spokesman.
Police Munich: “Cause of death is still completely unknown”
The student from Munich disappeared in 1995 at the age of 19. She had spent the evening of April 10, 1995 with an acquaintance in a bar. After that, both of them visited another friend in Munich’s Schellingstrasse. At around 2 a.m. they set off on foot to Stiglmaierplatz.
Sonja wanted to call her sister from a phone booth there. Her companion gave her his phone card before he ran to the arriving tram and Sonja went into the phone booth. That was the last time the 19-year-old was seen. Since then she has been considered missing.
Only the bones found near Kipfenberg brought certainty: Sonja Engelbrecht is dead. “The cause of death is still completely unknown,” said the spokesman. This cannot be determined with a bone in the thigh alone. Therefore, the investigators hope to come across more Engelbrecht bones in the forest area – as soon as the weather permits. Most recently, the officials had combed the forest in November with a large contingent of emergency services and sniffer dogs.
