Revolt of no vax couples: San Marino grants the derogation for future fathers in the delivery room
The rationale was to prohibit people without a Super Green Pass from accessing hospitals. But the Health Secretariat of the Republic of San Marino had to take a step back from what was established in the latest decree which came into force on Monday 17 January. He thus announced an ad hoc derogation for future unvaccinated fathers: they will be considered as patients, and will thus be able to attend the birth. A negative swab will be enough, as already happens in Italy.
The revolt of couples
The problem arose when some San Marino couples expressed indignation at the latest sanitary regulations of the Titan, which sanctioned the obligation for all visitors to the Cailungo Hospital to be either vaccinated or cured from Coronavirus. Strict rules, which actually shaped the prohibition for no vax fathers to access the obstetrics ward. “Fathers are deprived of the right to have their child born as they not only cannot access the ward but not even the delivery room”, reads the open letter signed by future San Marino parents. To date, an unvaccinated San Marino father has to stay out of the hospital. Rules different from those in force in neighboring localities. In Emilia-Romagna – as indeed in Italy – every pregnant woman can choose a person to accompany her for the entire duration of the birth, from the beginning of labor, as long as she has performed a negative swab. Also for this reason, the choice of San Marino had to “at the end of pregnancy to have to take our alternative route or outside our own expenses) to be able to guarantee us to live the birth of a child in a dignified way, something that our state hospital does not allow us”, they indignantly underlined the couples in the letter.
“Wives need to have them near”
“Fathers are not alone in the right to lose the right to see their children born – the letter continued – mothers lose, not being able to have their partner by their side, and children lose it, not being able to come into the world with their family “. Complaint accepted by the Health Secretariat, which yesterday announced a solution on the way. A temporary exemption for future unvaccinated fathers will be written in black and white in a circular: also in San Marino they will be able to accompany the woman during childbirth if equipped with a negative swab.
