Retired teachers should help out – salzburg.ORF.at
Coronavirus
Salzburg’s state policy is now reacting to the increasing number of infections in schools. On Tuesday, 800 CoV tests were quickly positive there. Retired teachers were contacted to cushion the absences due to illness. They should help out in an emergency.
On Tuesday alone, 729 people in Salzburg’s schools were infected with the corona virus, including 52 teachers. In view of the increasing number of infections, not only students but also retired teachers should step in for sick colleagues, says Education Minister Daniela Gutschi (ÖVP).
“Some have already applied, including 70 students”
“We have written letters to all retired teachers up to the age of 67 asking them to get in touch if you are interested in teaching a few hours in the schools. There has also been some feedback. At the same time, of course, we also tried to motivate students. 70 students who would step in at short notice in an emergency have already signed up,” says Gutschi. But that wasn’t necessary yet. A total of 182 classes in the state are currently in distance learning.
