Pisa, car accident, a 22-year-old boy dies
A tragedy has upset a small community in the province of Pisa. A 22-year-old died after an accident near Riparbella, yet another on state highway 68, which has long been the scene of dramatic accidents. The victim is called Ion Ignat Viti, Giovanni for friends. Of Moldovan origins, a fraction with the family in Orciatico, a fraction of the municipality of Lajatico, also in the Pisan area.
For him the crash against a wall near a curve was fatal, which occurred at 1 pm on Tuesday 18 January. He was traveling in his car towards Volterra when he lost control of the vehicle near the town of San Martino. He hit a wall and was trapped in the cockpit, while the engine was thrown about fifty meters away. Ion Ignat Viti died instantly, despite the massive arrival of help. There is no eyewitness account of the accident, which occurred at a time when not many cars were passing through the highway. A passer-by was in the crash and activated the rescue. The Public Assistance of Cecina, the Misericordia of Saline di Volterra, the firefighters of Saline di Volterra and the carabinieri intervened on the spot, but there was immediately nothing to do for the victim. In a moment the Pegasus helicopter rescue was also alerted, then returned to base.
The causes are still being examined by the investigators. It is thought that the accident may be caused by a distraction by the boy: the carabinieri found the young man’s smartphone with open messaging. A technical investigation will be initiated to understand if the 22-year-old was sending or receiving messages. Among the hypotheses, even a driving sickness is not excluded. The coroner is also presented on the spot, then the magistrate of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Pisa ordered the autopsy on the body of Ion Ignat Viti.
Meanwhile in Lajatico, where the boy lived with his mother, the news caused sadness and despair. Mayor Alessio Barbafieri said a note of condolence and many friends of ‘Giovannì are remembering him on social networks.
