On Tuesday, 28,469 infected came in the Czech Republic, the most during the epidemic

Prague – The coronavirus epidemic in the Czech Republic continues to be strong, with the most confirmed cases of covid during the epidemic coming on Tuesday, tests revealed 28,469 infected. The previous record was held on November 25 last year with 27,937 positive tests. In a week-on-week comparison, laboratories confirmed about 16,000 more infections this Tuesday. Since Monday’s start of testing in companies, the number of tests performed has also been growing, with the ministry registering over 128,000 on Tuesday, 29,000 more than a week ago. It follows from the data on web Ministry of Health. The number of new cases is growing significantly due to the spread of more contagious omicron variants.

Predictions by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (IHIS) show that the daily number of people infected could reach 50,000 cases a day at the peak of the omicron wave of the epidemic at the end of January. Director of IHIS Ladislav Dušek on Tuesday in an interview for Television List He stated that the real number of people infected in the population would not be known due to the limiting capacity of the tests. “But in ten days we will know if the omicron will flood the hospitals or not,” he said. On Tuesday, 1,635 patients with covid-19 required hospital care, 252 of whom were in severe condition. Both numbers are falling for the time being. Last year, at the turn of November and December, when more than 20,000 people were infected daily, more than 7,000 were hospitalized with covid. Scientific studies show that omicron is more contagious than the delta variant, but the course of the disease is easier.

Recurrent coronavirus infections have also increased in recent weeks. The so-called reinfections are not included in the daily increase of those infected on the ministry’s website. On Tuesday, statistics record about 3,700 of them, a week ago it was around 1,300. Experts point out that the number of recurrent infections will continue to grow with the further spread of the omicron variant in the Czech Republic. Indeed, disease in this variant protects against infection less than in delta and previous coronavirus variants.

Along with the daily increased numbers of people infected, the so-called incidence number is increasing, ie the number of new cases of covid-19 in the last seven days for every 100,000 inhabitants. To date, it has risen from Tuesday’s 799 to 950 cases, rising in all regions. The worst situation is still in Prague with the current incidence of 1819. On Tuesday, the daily number of confirmed cases in the capital was again record high, tests revealed 5,741 positives. The Central Bohemian Region still has an incidence higher than a thousand. On the contrary, the Vysočina and Moravian-Silesian regions are relatively best off, with 529 newly infected and 552 inhabitants per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days.

Some companies decided to test their employees with antigen tests performed by healthcare professionals on Monday, when all employees have to be tested twice a week, with a few exceptions. Unlike self-tests, their results are reflected in daily statistics. Workers who pass a positive positive antigen test may end the five-day quarantine with a negative PCR test, but they are not required to undergo it. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health registered over 101,000 PCR tests, 23,000 more than a week ago.

The proportions of confirmed cases of the disease in the number of performed tests are growing. In the so-called diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms are already being tested, they recorded almost 38 percent. In epidemiological indications, where people are tested for contact with the infected, for example, the proportion of positive percentages has risen to about 25 percent, and in preventive and comprehensive tests, which are mostly performed at almost 14 percent.

55,428 people in the Czech Republic received the covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday. Of these, 47,348 people with previously completed vaccinations came for a booster dose, thus exceeding 3.37 million. More than 6.74 million people have completed vaccinations, and the number of medical professionals in the Czech Republic has increased by almost 16.6 million doses in more than a year. Today, the government should decide on a decree that mandates mandatory coronavirus vaccination for selected professions and people over the age of 60.

During the entire epidemic in the Czech Republic since the beginning of March 2020, over 2.65 cases of infection were recorded and 36,937 people with proven covid-19 disease died.
