on January 26 he spoke about “my first vote” – Observer
It is one of the missions of the media: make sure that readers, listeners and viewers are well-informed, so that their decisions can be made in conscience and in the possession of all who are in fact. In this sense, and with the laws of January 30th at the door, the Observer prepared some initiatives aimed at an essential fringe of society: young people.
So, on the 26th of January we organize a conference “My First Vote: Young People and Politics in Portugal”, which will be attended by Jorge Fernandes, scientific scientist, researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences (Univ. Lisboa), author of the political book The Portuguese Parliament [ed FFMS, 2015] and scientific coordinator of Votometer, Maria Jose Brites, researcher at CICANT (Univ. Lusófona) and author of the book Youth and Civic Cultures [ed. LabCom, 2015], Pedro Rainha, Deputy Society Editor and Coordinator of Observer Fact Checks and Teresa Simões and Gustavo Pais Rodrigues18 years old, students and first for the first time. Moderation will be in charge of the journalist Paulo Farinha.
What is the magnitude of youth electoral and civic participation? What are the main youth profiles? What is the media’s responsibility to include younger voices? How can political parties and movements involve them more in the political agenda? How to fight disinformation and fake news? These are some of the issues under consideration.
The online conference starts at 5:00 pm on January 26th and will transfer (from the programming school) 42 Lisbon), on Facebook and on the Observer website. Admission is free and open to anyone who wants to attend.
If you are interested in joining us, mark your calendar: January 26, at 5 pm, on the Observador website or Facebook, on a computer, tablet or smartphone near you.
