Munich today – news from January 19th, 2022 – Munich
Since I started working from home, I rarely take the S-Bahn. While this usually works well, I’ve still witnessed many glitches – something I’m largely spared today. Unfortunately, others cannot work from home and commute to work every day on the S-Bahn. You can see how they are doing on social media. There is a lot of complaining about late or canceled trains. Sometimes a switch is broken, sometimes a signal, sometimes the train doors are on strike.
Deutsche Bahn then promises improvement again and again. But in recent months, a series of breakdowns has strained the patience of commuters and certainly hasn’t helped the image of the S-Bahn. Politicians fear that the desired turnaround in traffic will falter if people then prefer to drive to work or to go shopping in the city.
That is why the Free State, the city of Munich and the districts in the MVV area have now sent a fire letter to the railway board, in which they clearly describe the suffering of commuters and call for improvements. “The lost trust of passengers is difficult to win back. The DB board must finally act now!” demands Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD). The authors invited the board members Richard Lutz and Ronald Pofalla to the crisis talks in Munich. Let’s see if these rise to the challenge.
