In added time after extra time in Cologne (5:4 after penalties), HSV star Sebastian Schonlau (27) tugged a little at FC striker Anthony Modeste (33). Referee Daniel Schlager (Niederbühl) whistled for a penalty. Highly controversial. Modeste equalized in the last second to make it 1-1.

A few minutes later, Schonlau grabbed the ball and converted the last HSV ball on penalties. So sovereign – there was no sign of the anger and all the tension.
“You don’t win like that every day,” Schönlau beamed afterwards. “We stuck with it, played our game. In the end we were rewarded.”
