PROVIDENCE, RI – Providence College dam ice hockey senior Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) has been named Sweden’s Olympic ice hockey team for women for the Beijing Olympics 2022.
After previously representing Sweden in the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, Hjalmarsson will make his hockey career’s second Olympic appearance. Hjalmarsson is the 11thth player in program history to compete in the Olympics and is one of only six suitors who appeared in several Olympic Games.
In November, Hjalmarsson helped Team Sweden secure their place in Beijing, when they won the IIHF Group E Olympic qualifying pool. Hjalmarsson ended in a draw as number one in his qualifying group in points (six).
Team Sweden begins the Olympic campaign against Japan at 16:40 local time in Beijing (03:40 east) on Thursday 3 February. Sweden meets the Czech Republic on Saturday 5 February at 21:10 local time (8.: 10: 00 Eastern) and against host China on Monday 7 February at 21:10 local (08:10 Eastern) before closing the preliminary round against Denmark on Tuesday on February 8 at 21:10 local time (8: 10.00 Eastern).
NBC is the television home of the 2022 Winter Olympics in the United States and a full broadcast schedule will be released near the start of the Games.
In addition to Hjalmarsson’s Olympic selection of Team Sweden, Providence College’s women’s hockey program will also be represented in the 2022 Beijing Games by Associate Head Coach Ali Domenico, who was selected as the assistant coach of Team Canada.
