In recent years, the golden bear has become the top predator in Hungary, it is an animal belonging to the dog family, smaller than the gray wolf and larger than the fox. Although it became extinct in almost all of Europe in the middle of the 20th century, it has not only returned, but tens of thousands of it can live in Hungary. Since this predator can cause huge damage, experts say it would be timely to regulate the stock.
The golden jackal is a predator of the canine family, smaller than the gray wolf but larger than the fox, known in the vernacular as the reed wolf or toady worm. This animal was native not only in Hungary, but throughout Europe, but in the middle of the last century it became extinct in almost all of Europe due to the reduction of its habitats and extermination, but in the early eighties it started to expand westwards from the Balkans. After its appearance about forty years ago, the population has grown exponentially from the beginning, and the hunter of Nagyatád, Mihály Horváth, does not unreasonably assume that today we can live up to 25-40 thousand individuals, then slowly conquering the whole of Europe moving west and north. In Germany last November, it was proven that gold jackets are no longer only present in the country, but also multiplying. And this was a matter of concern to local authorities, as reported by the Agricultural Sector.
The golden jacket is a very clever animal, it connects the sound of the shot with the easily obtainable prey on the hunt, you know, it will be there with offal or a wounded animal, it is easy prey, it eats the least amount of energy. He avoids traps most of the time, but if one member of the family did this in his or her life, the others will remember what happened for a long time.
Most hunt in pairs or with many, so the spectacular companion who is trapped burns into the brains of surviving individuals for a long time, and the same is true of armed hunting: if the result remains a messenger, the hunter can’t wait for a long time.
Said Mihály Horváth.
The intense spread of the golden jackal is explained by the characteristics of the species, which is a predator weighing 11 to 15 kilograms that is twice the size of a fox. According to experts, the stock should be regulated, because in many places – for example in Somogy county – they are already causing huge damage to the wild stock.
