Restaurant Meliefste is not allowed to open in the Netherlands, so even moves to Antwerp
The starred restaurant will be a pop-up restaurant in the Upper Room Bar in The Jane. Meliefste does this together with good friend and owner of The Jane Nick Bril. “A lot has been expected and we don’t know what to expect. We can’t make plans either and that’s how we came up with this idea,” says Meliefste.
Zeeland cuisine in Belgium
The pop-up restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from January 27 to 30 and February 3 to 6. Meliefste has a menu with dishes from the Oosterschelde and other Zeeland regions.
In those eight days, a total of 350 people can come and eat. Since Monday evening they have been able to register for the restaurant and that was an immediate success: “I sat behind the laptop full-time with two colleagues. We are already completely full. We have downloaded hundreds of people.” Not only Zeelanders know the restaurant in Antwerp: “Everything has followed. From Groningen to Paris.”
Nice trip
It is a temporary concept because the chef hopes that the catering industry in the Netherlands will open soon. “It turned out that when the catering industry is allowed to open, there are usually restrictions. We are now going for certainty and this is a nice trip.”
