Prague is fighting against the scoundrels with energy. He prepares regulations and issues a ban
The councilors promised at the meeting that they would ban their practices, but the regulation still has to be discussed with the city districts and the Energy Regulatory Office. Technically, this is not a decree, but a regulation that does not have to go through the approval process in the council.

Although a decree is already in force in Prague that generally prohibits doorstep selling, such as the offer of pots or cosmetics – this is governed by the Trade Licensing Act. And energy sellers are subject to energy law. Thanks to the amendment to the Energy Act in force since January this year, municipalities can ban these practices, allowing them to regulate sales and services in the energy sector outside business premises.
According to the Prague Legislative Councilor Hana Kordová Marvanová (STAN), companies are using this. “It simply came to our notice then. They could approve the plan next Monday and send it in an abbreviated comment procedure for fifteen days, during which it could come into force, “he explains.
The process of energy blacksmiths uses mainly the ignorance of people. “People sign a general authorization for them, which then means automatic decision-making on behalf of the client whom they will have as a contractual partner,” warns councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09).
After signing the general authorization, these dubious suppliers can automatically change their tariffs. “These are practices on the edge or beyond the law. It is necessary to be as careful as possible, because they pretend to be regular suppliers, “appeals Chabr.
He also points out that municipal suppliers, such as Pražská energetika or Pražská plynárenská, do not use these practices.

About a tenth of the original customers, which is about three thousand people, are now in the regime of the supplier of last resort at Pražská plynárenská. Those who do not respond to the challenges, the contractor plans to visit in person.
“The ban on door-to-door sales will certainly not limit the competitive environment and the possibility for Praguers to freely choose their supplier,” adds Kordová Marvanová.
