Microsoft already has its own gaming interests, primarily through the Xbox, but they want more exclusive content that it can sell through these companies.

So buying Activision will really put it in a strong position.

“However, this is not the end of the story, it is very likely that regulators will look at this because Activision is actually one of only two major global game manufacturers now, the other being EA, which is the maker of Fifa.

“There is some consolidation in the sector and I think regulators will be interested in seeing how much of the share of gaming intellectual property rights that Microsoft will get if this deal goes through.”
