Earlier we told that Microsoft has bought the company behind such as Call of Duty and Candy Crush, Activision Blizzard.
The technology giant bought the company in a cash deal for $ 68.7 billion.
“This is a huge deal for Microsoft, this is the biggest deal in the company’s history.” Sky News presenter Ian King says
“It has bought companies before, such as Skype and LinkedIn, but this is a completely different ball game for $ 68.7 billion.
“The reason behind this is that Microsoft really wants to build its presence in gaming.
“If this deal goes through, Microsoft will become the world’s third largest gaming company with its revenues after Tencent, which is a Chinese company, and of course Sony, the maker of PlayStation.
Microsoft already has its own gaming interests, primarily through the Xbox, but they want more exclusive content that it can sell through these companies.
So buying Activision will really put it in a strong position.
“However, this is not the end of the story, it is very likely that regulators will look at this because Activision is actually one of only two major global game manufacturers now, the other being EA, which is the maker of Fifa.
“There is some consolidation in the sector and I think regulators will be interested in seeing how much of the share of gaming intellectual property rights that Microsoft will get if this deal goes through.”
