“From afar (closed on regret)”: Isabella Ragonese arrives at the Camploy Theater in Verona on January 20, 2022 Events in Verona
A one-off written tailor-made for Isabella Ragonesi. Lucia Calamaro, one of the most important playwrights and director of the new Italian scene, brings her latest work to Verona “From afar (closed on regret)”, January 20, 2022 al Camploy Theater. The show, which is part of the program of L’Altro Teatro, a review organized by the Municipality of Verona, is produced by Infinito Teatro and Argot Produzioni in collaboration with Riccione Teatro. The actress Emilia Verginelli is also on stage.
“From afar (closed on regret)” stages the attempt of an adult daughter, who became a therapist, to do what she could not when she was a child: to help her tormented, unhappy, fragile mother who looked after her as best she could in the difficult task to be and to be a parent. The daughter, then helpless in the face of her mother’s tragedy, with the new means available thanks to the profession she has undertaken, wishes to adapt at the disposal of that sweet parent she met as a child, without however realizing it. We read in the director’s notes: «How many of us as children have witnessed helplessly the dramas of loved adults? How many want to intervene to help, understand, save them? This is almost never possible when you are small and mostly helpless in the face of that obvious unhappiness ».
In this new creation Lucia Calamaro has put all the pietas that the theater is capable of carrying and gives it to Isabel Ragonese who interprets a perfectly built on her, in a wonderful passage that opens delicately, and at the same time ruthlessly, on the female world scarred by a an oppressive and judgmental society, which imposes limiting roles on women, in which they feel trapped, until they no longer recognize themselves and go mad. A show about the implant, but also about listening, forgiveness and understanding of a soul that does not have the means to react to its own reality, remaining crushed by it. Two voices that meet and make one. “I imagined – explains the playwright and director – a small place, between an elusive here and there, where this fact, this word is ‘event’, look after it, it can happen, for a while”.
Isabella Ragonese interprets this acute monologue placing herself at the service of the text, masterfully mixing the comic register and the intimate style based on memory and on what remains of the parents’ sorrows and problems, transforming the show into a rare and deep respect and understanding. .
