ALL ANTWERP. “Now that my daughter is born, I feel reborn” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Laurien Deberdt (29).
“Lily-Noor is eleven weeks old. She hasn’t seen her daddy yet. He didn’t get here to give birth. He lives in Morocco and the borders are closed for the time being. Lily-Noor’s dad and I have a company in Morocco. He lives there and I regularly commute back and forth. So now his visa was recognised. They are very strong there because of corona.”
“So he had to miss the birth, but not completely. Thanks to the midwife, he was able to follow on the computer via WhatsApp. I think he’s been able to see everything closer than daddies who are physically present. The midwife held the screen close to me. We are now aiming for March to see each other again. That will be with a lot of emotions and a lot of tears. I already speak when I think it.”
“I have a lot of support from my mom and my family. Everyone helps and such a birth brings people back together. I’m happy, it’s enjoying now. It was a pregnancy with problems from start to finish and the delivery was one with many complications. Now that Lily-Noor is finally here, I’m reborn myself. And she’s very nice, which helps too.” rvre
