There were 7,235 cases on Sunday, the highest Sunday increase since the end of November

Prague – In the Czech Republic, tests on Sunday confirmed 7235 new cases of coronavirus, which is the highest Sunday increase since the end of November. In a week-on-week comparison, the daily number of newly confirmed diseases is about 4,500 higher. Along with the daily increased numbers of people infected, the so-called incidence number is increasing, ie the number of new cases of covid-19 in the last seven days for every 100,000 inhabitants. To date, it has increased from 636 on Sunday to 678. cases. In contrast, patients with covid in hospitals are still declining, their number dropped to 1505 on Sunday. web Ministry of Health.

The epidemic in the Czech Republic has been gradually increasing since the beginning of the year. While less than 36,000 confirmed infections came in the last week of last year, in the first week of this year there were about 47,000 newly infected and almost 73,000 confirmed cases of covid-19 in the past. Experts expected a similar development due to the spread of a more contagious variant of omicron.

The incident number has risen to date in all regions. The highest incidence is still in Prague, where there are 1,373 newly infected people for every 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. On the other hand, Vysočina has the lowest incidence number, namely 362.

The daily increase in new infections on the ministry’s website does not include so-called reinfections, ie cases of recurrent infection in a previously positive person. There were 876 of them on Sunday. The reason is probably a variant of the coronavirus omicron, which according to experience from some countries can overcome the immunity acquired by vaccination and previously contracted disease.

Scientific studies show that omicron is more contagious than the delta variant, but the course of the disease is easier. Thus, the decrease in the number of hospitalized with covid continues, the least of them since the end of last October. Compared to the previous Sunday, the ministry now registers about 840 fewer patients with covid in hospitals. There were 273 patients with covid-19 in severe condition on Sunday, about 160 less in the week.

Laboratories performed over 34,000 tests on Sunday, of which about 27,600 were PCR tests. One week ago, the number of people tested was about 2,300 lower. Due to the significant increase in daily increases in the number of new infections, the shares of confirmed cases in the number of tests performed are still growing significantly. The epidemiological indication, in which people are tested, for example, for contact with an infected person, rose to 26.57 percent. Last Sunday it was around 11 percent. The proportion of positives in the so-called diagnostic indication, when people who have already been tested show symptoms, increased from 12.57 percent to 28.58 percent. For the most preventive and comprehensive tests, the share of positive increases from six percent in the previous Sunday to 15.7 percent.

During the entire epidemic in the Czech Republic since the beginning of March 2020, over 2.6 cases of infection were recorded and 36,874 people with proven covid-19 disease died.

12,228 people came to the covid-19 vaccine in the Czech Republic on Sunday, of which 11,225 doses were boosting for people with previously completed vaccinations. More than 6.73 million people have received the vaccination, and more than 3.27 million have received a booster dose. In more than a year of vaccination against covid-19 in the Czech Republic, medics have distributed 16.49 million doses. Two doses are needed to complete the vaccination.

In the Czech Republic, the quarantine rules are changing from today after risky contact with infected coronavirus, and you must now be vaccinated. All unvaccinated health and social workers must also be tested every week. According to the extraordinary measures the Ministry of Health will continue to apply an exemption to workers from these services who have experienced covid-19 in the last six months.

From today, all employees, including sole traders and company executives, must also be tested twice a week with covid-19 antigen self-test kits. In the case of a positive test, the worker will be quarantined for five days. He may undergo a validation PCR test and, if negative, may return to work immediately. Newly vaccinated people from the public health insurance have paid five PCR tests per month instead of the previous two. The new testing regime should be valid for two to three weeks.
