The subway under the D1 in the south of Prague is open, shortcomings remain
The underpass parameters do not match
The underpass is notorious among users due to its unsatisfactory dimensional parameters, (un) lighting and falling surface. At its lowest point on the east side, it is about 160 cm in height. Basically, everyone except the children riding the bike here has to crouch differently to ride. I have to do a taller pedestrian in the same way.
The surface of the underpass at this point is formed by a very rough and uneven surface of gravel concrete, which also disintegrates. Due to the fact that the underpass is unlit, this combination creates a dangerous place for its users.
From a historical point of view, it is worth noting that the underpass was built (as a culvert) before the Second World War as part of the construction of the first section of the highway, and as one of the few buildings adapted to the restored buildings in the 60s and 70s. During the construction of the culvert before the war, the road was not considered as connecting then on one side of the field and on the other side a pair of houses in Šeberov. However, today it fulfills such a function, despite long-term and repeated requests from citizens for deepening and general improvement of conditions, nothing is happening. It should be noted that the negative emotions of citizens are often directed at the town hall of the adjacent districts, but the subway is owned and managed by the Directorate of Roads and Motorways.
It is important to mention that the bridge between Újezd and Šeberov consists of two parts – underpasses, which often leads to misunderstandings. One part is under the highway and the other under the rampart along the highway. The passage under the rampart is on the land of the capital, managed by the Prague-Újezd district and is absolutely fine – high, wide, a few years ago quality paving and lighting were added here. But it is much shorter than the one under the highway.
