the authorities urge citizens to abide by the restrictions
At the end of last week, Moldovan medical experts gathered at a conference hosted by the Medical University of Chisinau pointed out that the new Omicron variant of the new type of coronavirus seems to be spreading among children faster than previous variants. Experts added that in the case of Omicron, children also show generally mild symptoms, but this should not be underestimated. A story on this topic from Tamara Grejdeanu:
One week after the official identification of people infected with the Omicron strain was officially announced, the number of hospitalizations in the capital of the Republic of Moldova is growing rapidly from day to day, including among children, draws the attention of Boris Gâlca, head of the General Directorate of Health and Social Care . of Chisinau Municipality.
At the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases for Children, all beds are occupied. Boris Gâlca says that the increase in the number of infections requires the arrangement of additional places, not only in Chisinau, but also in the hospitals in the regions:
“I ordered the activation of the wards with Covid at the” Valentin Ignatenco “children’s hospital, I understand that my colleagues from the Ministry of Health will also order the activation of the spaces in other republican institutions. Given the magnitude and alarming trend of Covid cases in children, it is important to activate pediatric Covid hospitals in both the northern and southern parts of the country. Because the biggest pressure is coming to Chisinau and it is not normal for children with Covid from Briceni or Vulcanesti to come to Chisinau. ”
Boris Gâlca specified for the treatment of children, whose contamination sometimes coincides with the seasonal flu infection, all the necessary resources were mobilized, the hospital managers being urged to be careful and to make sure that they have the necessary medicines and consumables.
In Balti, where most infections are usually found after Chisinau, the number of international children for treatment with Covid-19 has also increased alarmingly, says Serghei Rotari, director of the Municipal Clinical Hospital. He notes that the situation is under control for the time being, but points out that this is the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that the number of diseases in children has increased so rapidly:
“Given that the flow of patients is growing, and growing massively, we have opened more beds, up to 45. We are open and receive children from 12 districts and Balti Municipality since March 2020, but such a rapid growth, in two days, this is the third day, from 14 children we rose to 40, tonight or to be 50 children, so quickly we did not have. “
Moldovan health authorities began vaccinating minors 12 years of age and older in November last year, but the process is slow because most parents are still reluctant to agree to immunization, notes Liliana Iașan, head of the Buiucani Territorial Medical Association. In her opinion, the high incidence of Covid-19 cases in children should give them food for thought:
“Parents are a bit reluctant, if I may say so, that it may be worthwhile, with a focus on illness for children, it could boost, at least, vaccination at age 12, I would like to believe. We, at least, in the sector are raising the lists of eligible children and we are starting to invite them to vaccination. I think parents should be responsible for the huge number of children who are now with Covid and the forms are medium to severe. “
In addition to repeated calls for vaccination, the health authorities urge citizens to comply with restrictive measures that would protect them from possible contamination, first of all to wear a protective mask indoors and to keep their distance in crowded places. Boris Gâlca, head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance of Chisinau Municipality, says that he requested the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to warn the eventual sanctioning of the negligent, who knowingly ignore the rules dictated by the pandemic.
