Raudnitz House in Prague 5 has undergone extensive renovation. Seniors are moving into new flats
The reconstructed Hlubočepy chateau in the floor plan of the letter E, or Raudnitz House, will soon welcome its residents – seniors from Prague 5. On the ground floor of the building there is a glass area with tables, where the community center will be located. “There was still a passage here, there were horses on the right maybe a hundred years ago and a general practitioner ten years ago,” recalls Ivo Ezekiel. Now a whole new space awaits him. “I have never seen such a beautifully equipped surgery,” the doctor looks forward to moving here during February.
There is still a shortage of housing for the elderly
The reconstructed house will offer 22 small flats for seniors in sizes from 1 + kk to 2 + 1, as well as barrier-free access. Prague 5 will start selecting new tenants from among the inhabitants of the city district. “Next week we will have the first commission, which will select the candidates who are most needed to allocate an apartment,” describes Helena Volechová, director of the Center for Social and Nursing Assistance in Prague 5.
For a smaller apartment and services, I will pay the tenant around 8 thousand crowns. “We in community centers are different with seniors, what it will be like living. And seniors walk around and say it will be housing for VIPs. No, this is housing for normal people, “he adds. There are now almost 70 flats in Prague 5 specially designed for seniors. According to Helena Volechová, more are needed. Therefore, the city district plans to build two more nursing homes in the coming years.
“One will be here next to Raudnitz’s house, it will be brand new. Built on a green field, on the site of a former medical center. There will be 19 flats, a gym and small facilities, “says councilor Petr Lachnit from ANO. The second house with 34 flats will be the site of the Poštovka cultural center on the border of Košíř and Motol. The total cost of both houses will exceed 200 million crowns.
