Pisa writes the future of horse racing
Experts and institutions gathered at the San Rossore racecourse: “We will deliver our proposals to the future President of the Republic and the Government”
PISA – Pisa looks to the future of horse racing. And the idea of drafting a “White Paper” which contains a detailed description of the main problems and proposals to reform the sector in Italy.
“An appeal to national politics must start from Pisa to relaunch, without further delay, the horse racing sector, which for twenty years has been in a deep crisis in general disinterest – said the mayor of Pisa. Michele Conti -. Our administration wanted this conference, in particular thanks to the commitment of the municipal council Marcello Thanks for participating in municipal institutions at national level for bringing to light the criticisms and perspectives from at least the launch of a sector that is in crisis at least twenty years . National policy, in this time, has done little for the sector, and indeed with the suppression of the Unire (National Union for the increase of equine breeds) and with the subsequent transfer of competences to the Ministry for agricultural and forestry policies, it has probably worsened even further. more the situation. In Pisa there is one of the main Italian racecourses, that of San Rossore, and here there is a horse racing tradition that dates back to the mid-19th century. But horse riding is not just a sport, it is also an important economic activity. Unfortunately, in the last ten years the system has been in crisis, with many farms that have closed and with the loss of many jobs. For this reason, the responsibility of ensuring that national policy deals with the sector, reorganizing the supply chain and reconstituting a specific dedicated structure, to ensure that the sector, and the entire supply chain, can find a direct and quick interlocu to resolve the main critical issues in the sector, such as the payment of premiums which today takes place with great delay, causing serious economic problems “.
Since 2103 the trend of Italian horse racing has been in constant and progressive impoverishment – adds the city councilor Marcello Lazzeri -. This is very regrettable at a time like this where the sector worldwide is taking off, also thanks to the interest of the countries of the new economies. And we are sorry that in Italy, on the other hand, to take advantage of this phase of interest, we are no longer anyone at an international level. Then, it is also an issue of employment and the production of wealth; in recent years at least 25 thousand jobs have been lost and today this trend must be reversed. There are possibilities to make this sector important again and wanted to organize the day, precisely because with the contributions of the invited speakers it is possible to offer guidelines for an articulated reform of the equestrian sector. In fact, a sort of white paper on horse racing will be drawn up with all the interventions and proposals that emerged during the conference that we will send to the highest leaders of the state, to the future President of the Republic and to the President of the Council of Ministers so that they become aware of what is happening “.
The conference was attended, among others, by the mayor of Livorno Luca Salvetti, of Montecatini Luca Baroncini, by Crespina Lorenzana Tommaso D’Adda, the senator Patrizio La Pietra, member of the Senate Agriculture Commission, the deputy Manfredi Potenti, the senator Cristiano Zuliani. The president of the Province of Pisa was also present Massimiliano Angori, the regional councilor Andrea Pieroni, the president of the San Rossore Regional Park Lorenzo Bani.
