Parcoursup, still a source of stress for high school students in Côte-d’Or

Sugar Mizzy January 17, 2022

Today is rising little by little senior high school students ! The baccalaureate is in sight and it is already necessary to think of the continuation with the beginning this Thursday, January 20 an important phase on the orientation platform Parcoursup. The students will be able return their vows in order to continue their studies in the public. The university, a specialized school, the alternation, the choice is immense and it is precisely what underline the high school students.

“Too many choices” on Parcoursup

A leap into the unknown for many, like the visitors to the Studyrama orientation fair in Dijon, Venus this Saturday, January 15 at the Palais des Congrès.

In total, approximately 2,000 attendees and a large majority of high school students came to meet the fifty or so training courses offered. Among the visitors, Noam Faivre, 17, a high school student from the Jura for whom the Parcoursup platform is not “not instinctive.” “We don’t know yet what we want to do and we are told to choose. There are too many choices!” regret this Terminale student. An observation shared by his friend Tom Deigneau, also in his final year, who has a vague idea of his future: working in IT. Advised on the choice of courses by the teachers, it remains in the fog with Parcoursup.

According to him, the teachers do not really help him, also because of the health context: “In principle, we had to have many hours of orientation. In the end, we only had two hours, being only accompanied to go to a website. We put what we liked, we were advised what to do orient ourselves and that’s all we saw! We mostly have to fend for ourselves.”

Above all, we have to fend for ourselves.” Tom Deigneau, a high school student soon to be registered on Parcoursup.

Participation in orientation fairs remains essential

Explanations are missing for Parcoursup and the observation also applies to parents. Valérie Deigneau, Tom’s mother, clearly sees the platform “like a gasworks.” “The place where you will be assigned is not due to the student’s first choice. For my son, I hope that we will not be in the situation of certain parents who reveal in September that they must to find accommodation for their child at the other end of France.”

To face the problem, the solution remains… to visit orientation fairs, asking as many questions as possible. “_The operation of Parcoursup even encourages people to come to people to seek information_“ underlines Tristan Devoile, a computer science student in Dijon, who knew the platform in his high school years.

But ” it is by speaking with the representatives of the schools that we can discover certain professions or certain training courses that may interest us. » A classic but effective advice: for Terminale students, there is still a little time to find out. The next show happens behind the screen with the virtual fair for higher education in Bourgogne-Franche Comté, scheduled from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 January.

On the side of Parcoursup, candidates have until March 29, 2022 to register. The deadline is April 8 to confirm their wishes to continue their studies. The admission phase is held from June 2 to July 15. In 2021, more than 931,000 candidates from all over France confirmed at least one wish on the platform.
